Artist: Antoine-denis Chaudet (1763-1810)
Large sculpture after Antoine-Denis CHAUDET (1763-1810) "L'Amour prenant un papillon", bronze subject with a green-brown patina on a marble base decorated with four small bronze feet called lions' feet and two gilded bronze bas-reliefs depicting musician lovers. Period model kept in the Louvre Museum since 1817 after the 1802 plaster model, late 19th century. Posthumous casting of very high quality, stamped by the Maison Colin à Paris, founder-publisher.

History : Salon of 1817, Paris
Marble finished by Pierre Cartellier (1757-1831). Salon of 1817, n° 805 (plaster model at the Salon of 1802, n° 409). Acquired from the sculptor's widow by the Ministry of the King's Household, and placed on 20 June 1817 in the Grand Trianon in Versailles. Entered the Louvre in 1847.
