"Napoleon III Period Bronze Antique Grand Tour Clock "
A rare gilt and patinated bronze mantel clock, decorated with antique ruins, busts, and Corinthian columns, dating from the 19th century. Original mechanism in working order. Signed on the mechanism plate "Silver Medal, Vincenti & Co. 1855."

The Grand Tour
The main destinations were the great cities of the Renaissance and the remains of classical civilizations, notably the archaeological sites of Herculaneum and Pompeii. One of the aims of the Grand Tour was to provide gentlemen with an aesthetic education. It was enviable to take an interest in French and Italian art. Travelers generally returned with crates filled with souvenirs they had collected, such as paintings, sculptures, and fine clothing.
