Large painting with Maria, the infant Jesus and St. John was executed ca. in the years 1870 - 1880 by the good Austrian painter of portraits, genre and nudes Franz Russ II (1844 - 1906). Son of historical painter Franz Russ senior and brother of Robert Russ. The artist studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Christian Ruben and worked in Vienna and Paris. His romantic paintings with Madonnas and oriental beauties are recognized by European and American collectors.
