Artist: Valentin Winkler
This Art Nouveau bronze sculpture, entitled "Boy with goats", was created around 1900 by the renowned Munich sculptor Valentin Winkler (1873 - Munich - after 1947). He studied in Nuremberg and Munich (with S. Eberle) and worked in Munich. A very similar bronze sculpture "Faun playing the flute riding a goat", 1904, was shown at the IXth Munich International Art Exhibition in 1905 .

Literature: ADEC register of artists' lexicon by Saur; Thieme/Becker's General Lexicon of Artists; Glaspalast Munich exhibition catalog, 1900, 1906, 1917, 1926 and 1925 (with image).

Inscription: signed at top on base.

Technique: bronze, dark brown patina.

Measures: h. 42 cm (16 1/2")  x l. 19 cm (7 1/2 in.) x 9 cm (3 1/2 in.) deep.

Condition: very good.
