The nude painting on the riverbank was created around the 1920s–30s by the Italian painter and poster artist Tito Corbella (Pontremoli (Massa Carrara) 1885–Rome 1966).
Tito Corbella was primarily a postcard designer. He was born in Pontremoli (in the province of Massa Carrara) in 1885 and earned a degree in chemistry from the University of Padua. Later, he pursued what may have been his true passion and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he studied under Guglielmo Ciardi and Ettore Tito.
What caught my attention, however, was actually his work for the cinema—specifically, a series of brochures (theater programs) with a somber tone designed for Carmine Gallone’s film *Marcia Nuziale*, starring the beautiful and famous silent-film actress Lyda Borelli. The macabre tension itself—an exception to his generally frivolous and colorful style—is evident in a series of postcards illustrating the tragic story of the English nurse Edith Cavell.
