The Art Deco genre scene was created in the 1920s by the renowned Austrian history and genre painter Oskar Larsen (1882–1972). From
1897 to 1901, he studied at the Vienna School of Graphic Arts under Viktor Jasper, Joseph Eugen Hoerwarter, and Doleschal, and from 1901 to 1909 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Alois Delug. During World War I, Larsen worked as a war artist, and between 1932 and 1942, he lived in Germany. He was an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Arts in London and received various awards in Vienna. In 1919, he became a member of the Vienna Artists' Union. Larsen's paintings are on permanent display at the Vienna City Museum.
