Théophile Deyrolle Return From The Fair

This return from the fair is located in the Concarneau region and very representative of the Breton work of Deyrolle.
Théophile Deyrolle studied architecture in Vaudremer's studio and he was 19 when he succeeded in issue a mandate from the Geographical Society which sends him to the Caucasian isthmus to explore the "high valleys of Ossetia and Swaneth". On his return to Paris he meets the Concarneau painter Alfred Guillou who initiates him to painting. He entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in the studios of Alexandre Cabanel and William Bouguereau from 1868 to 1869 and after a second stay in the Caucasus, he found his friend Guillou and married his sister Suzanne in 1872, settling permanently in Concarneau. There, he takes a place of secretary in the company of oyster farming of his in-laws and devotes his afternoons to painting. illustrating the magazine "Le Naturaliste". He draws boards for the use of schools. Generations of French children have thus awakened to nature and to the lessons of things thanks to his drawings. In 1876, he exhibited his first painting at the Salon. He will later be rewarded several times. In 1893, Deyrolle became curator of the Kériolet estate (near Concarneau) and founded with Guillou a veritable colony of artists which gave birth to the "School of Concarneau". He becomes an "official painter" and large canvases are commissioned from him. In 1882, the ministry commissioned two large panels from him for the vestibule of the Quimper museum. They are still there.
