Fireback With Phoenix (100 X 80 Cm)
Rare fireback decorated with a phoenix melted at the end of the 17th or early 18th century, a symbol of eternity and rebirth, the phoenix on its stake comes back to life hence its motto "FLAMES ARE FLOWERS OR I TAKE BACK MY LIFE", its bottom is decorated with foliage and a frieze of rudent canals frames it. It should be noted a wear and alteration of its frame. This plaque was found in Moselle. Its weight is 124 kg. Similar plaque published in CARPENTIER H., Plaques de chimneys, Tome premier, F.
