BIOGRAPHY: Charles Eschard received the first notions of his art at the School of Fine Arts Rouen directed to Rouen by Jean-Baptiste Descamps. He went then to spend a few years in Holland, where he studied the masterpieces of the Flemish masters. Back in France, he became known by exhibiting at the Louvre a view of Marseille: Joust and party on the water, a view of the port of Harlem. In 1798 he also exhibited a View of Mont Blanc and a View of Holland in the vicinity of Groningen. Another painting of the same kind, representing the View of a canal extending around a city of Holland, was given by its author at the Rouen Museum. He was approved by the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1783. Charles Eschard who, according to some connoisseurs, had a correct and spiritual brush in touch and nice in color, also etched some number of topics very sought after amateurs.
