Stefano Farneti (1855-1926) Le Chant
Artist: Stefano Farneti
Stefano FARNETI (1855–1926)
Oil on canvas
Signed and dated “Paris 1888” in the lower right corner.
70 x 60 cm (without frame)
Originally from Pisa, he settled in Naples. He was a student of Netti and studied at the Naples Academy. He began his career in France in Nice, subsequently exhibiting at the Paris Salon between 1885 and 1890. He also exhibited in Munich, Berlin, Leningrad, and London. He excelled in genre scenes—some with an Orientalist theme—and his portraits are magnificent.
Our painting, *The Singing Lesson*, is set in a hushed, welcoming environment; carpets and wall hangings in rich, deep, warm tones lend the scene an intimate and cozy atmosphere. The musicians are dressed in Oriental-style gowns, one of which is made of embroidered silk.
