The Schurr-Cabane dictionary adds:
Adolphe Monfallet, Bordeaux 1816-1900.
Charmed by Meissonnier's meticulousness, he sent small Louis XV scenes to the Salon from 1848 to 1883, featuring amiable and conventional figures almost always drawn from classical Italian theater.
This painting is in very good condition.
This scene depicts three young women, one of whom is reading a book. A man can be seen spying or listening to the conversation through a half-open door on the right.
This painting is remarkable for its quality.
The precision of the draped dresses, the subtle colors that render the silk of the garments, the background worked in an artistic blur, and the sharply defined faces and hands make this work a small marvel.
