Pierre Outin (1840–1899)Pierre Outin was a French painter born in Moulins and who died in Paris. Trained under Charles Lecointe and later Alexandre Cabanel, he made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1868. A specialist in genre scenes andhistorical subjects, he distinguished himself through his elegant and refined style, often inspired by the 18th century. A long stay in Algeria in 1874 enriched his palette and also steered him toward . Having won several awards at the Salon, notably for L’Émigré (1883) and Épisode de la déroute de Quiberon (1889), Outin enjoyed considerable fame during his lifetime. His work, praised for its refined draftsmanship and delicate use of color, isnow held in several public and private collections.
