Théophile Deyrolle (1844 –1923):

ThéophileDeyrolle studied architecture before enrolling at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in the studios of Alexandre Cabanel and William Bouguereau. It was there that he met Alfred Guillou, a painter originallyfrom Concarneau, where the two men would travel in 1871. Théophile Deyrolle became a Breton and a resident of Concarneau by marriage to Suzanne Guillou, the sister of his friend Alfred. Along with his friend and brother-in-law, he is considered the founder of the Concarneau School.

After settling in Concarneau, he worked for the HB pottery in Quimper, decorating dishes, plates, and vases with Japanese-inspired motifs. Later, drawn to port life and maritime trades, he became a fishmonger. His favorite subjects revolved around rural life. He created portraits, numerous landscapes, and decorative panels for, among others, the Manoir de Kérazan and the Hôtel des Dunes in Beg-Meil.
