Transitional Chest Of Drawers, Stamped "j. Birckle," 18th Century
Transition-period chest of drawers stamped “BIRCKLE” and “JME,” dating from the 18th century.
A remarkable Transition-period chest of drawers, stamped “BIRCKLE” and bearing the JME guild mark, featuring an elegant, curved silhouette with harmonious lines, reflecting the transition between the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles.
Featuring a slightly central-projecting shape, the front features five drawers: three in the upper section, arranged around a central drawer, and two in the lower section, forming a structured and particularly refined composition.
The front is richly adorned with high-quality geometric marquetry, composed of warm-toned veneers arranged in herringbone and radiating patterns, highlighted by delicate fillet frames forming spandrel panels.
The beveled side panels are embellished with beautiful chiseled and gilded bronze finials, while the finely crafted gilded bronze keyholes and handles add an elegant finishing touch to the piece.
The sides also feature remarkable geometric panel marquetry, attesting to the care taken in the craftsmanship of this piece, designed to be appreciated from every angle.
It rests on graceful, curved legs finished with gilded bronze feet.
The piece is topped with a beautiful piece of veined gray Saint Anne marble, featuring a grooved edge all around that perfectly follows the contours of the piece.
A very beautiful Transition-period chest of drawers, combining the fluid lines of the Louis XV style with the decorative precision of the Louis XVI style.
A piece of fine cabinetmaking, stamped “BIRCKLE” and “JME.”
