Small 18th-century Straw Marquetry Table Cabinet
A small, chest-shaped tabletop cabinet with an oak frame, richly decorated with straw marquetry. The decoration combines architectural scenes with geometric compositions, star motifs, and stylized foliage, in warm tones of golden yellow, reddish brown, and dark-stained straw.
The hinged lid reveals an interior fitted with several compartments with drop-down flaps. Its interior features an architectural composition with buildings, towers, and a central gateway. The central flap is adorned with a building set within a circular medallion, framed by fan-shaped motifs at the corners. The front features four drawers fitted with small, light-colored pull handles. The interiors of the drawers are also decorated with straw marquetry. The side panels feature a vase accompanied by leafy branches.
Condition: in need of restoration. Wear, cracks, missing pieces, and lifting of the straw marquetry in places. The lid shows slight warping. The reverse side of the central flap features an empty frame, which may have originally held a mirror. Restoration is necessary. See the photographs for details.
