18th century snuffbox. Finely painted miniature on ivory depicting a French politician, Joseph Cambon, born in Montpellier in 1754 or 1756, died in Brussels in 1820. A merchant from his native city, he brought the Legislative Assembly and the Convention to the revolutionary assemblies, of which he was a member. The miniature is elegantly presented in a gilded frame and protected by domed glass. The interior is in tortoiseshell.
