"korè" Female Terracotta Figurine, 19th Century

- A female statuette, with a slender body and arms raised above her head, made of terracotta in the style of the ancient Kore figures.

- This terracotta figurine echoes the stylistic characteristics of the Kore figurines found in Greece around 500 B.C. (Archaic period): almond-shaped eyes, circular earrings, and an elaborate, structured headdress. Her hair is arranged in streaked bangs falling over a bare forehead, with other long, wavy strands cascading down her chest, while the rest of her hair is gathered at the back in a veil. She is dressed in a very fine chiton, covered by a thicker himation draped over her shoulders, which falls on either side of her body in symmetrical folds and cascades.

- Her pose, with her arms raised and her hands resting on her head, may be associated with depictions of “mourners.”

– This terracotta figure shows traces of polychromy (notably white and green on the drapery). Previous restorations are evident (see photos)

- Dimensions - Height: 26 cm, width: 7.5 cm
