Wood Paneling Element Or Reliquary, Carved Linden Wood Rocaille Ornaments, 18th Century
- A linden wood panel featuring Louis XV-style rocaille ornamentation, dating from the 18th century.
- This wood panel features two medallions around which symmetrical rocaille carvings characteristic of the Louis XV style radiate. Among them are numerous flowering acanthus leaves arranged in scrolls or fanning out like a crested shell (see the top). The quality of the carving and the interplay of curves and counter-curves created by the acanthus leaves make this piece highly decorative.
