Transitional Period Marquetry Chest Of Drawers, Circa 1770
- Chest of drawers decorated with satinwood marquetry, amaranth, holly and boxwood fillets. Built in oak and fir. Work of an 18th century Parisian workshop circa 1770.
- Chest of drawers resting on four arched legs adorned with lion claws and leaves in chased bronze. Its projecting front accommodates two large drawers, the intermediate crosspiece is ingeniously hidden. Each of the drawers has a lock and two plates with a laurel torus ring pull. Its apron, cut with rounded shapes, has a gilt bronze clasp illustrating a cassolette with an openwork lid, holding in its handles a laurel garland arranged in a festoon and framed by acanthus leaves. Each corner, with a rounded profile, is decorated with a falling bronze with a laurel garland also arranged in a festoon. The original top is in molded gray Saint-Anne marble, fretworked to follow the profile of the front.
- This chest of drawers is distinguished by its rich marquetry decoration: a diamond-shaped mosaic with a fleuron (amaranth background and holly fleuron) with a Greek-style framing net on the front and sides, a decoration simulating fluting at the corners.
- Very good quality of manufacture, structure in oak and fir typical of Parisian workshops of this period. Very good condition.
- Dimensions - Height: 86 cm, Width: 112 cm, Depth: 54 cm
