Antique Louis XV Secretary Desk In Rosewood Veneer

- Louis XV-era rosewood drop-top secretary desk, crafted in the 17th century.

- Resting on front legs that curve slightly outward and square rear legs, this secretary desk features rounded side panels from which rises a lower section highlighted by a scalloped apron and featuring a double-leaf door. Above, a drop-leaf top, draped in crimson velvet and framed by a frieze of Greek frets, reveals four small drawers situated on either side of a niche, all surmounted by two additional niches running the full length, the middle one divided in two by a vertical crossbar. The sides are inlaid with rosewood marquetry skillfully arranged to form radiating patterns. The outlines of the interior drawers are highlighted by marquetry made of a darker-colored wood (amaranth). Finally, the top features a “Campan rosé vert” marble slab. Gilded bronze elements elegantly contrast with the wood tones on the drawers—whose pull knobs take on a floral shape—and on the lock plates featuring rocaille motifs.
