Precious Sealed Reliquary Of St. Bartholomew, With Wooden Lace Frame, 19th Century
From a small collection of Austrian religious objects, this fine reliquary contains a relic of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle (St Bartholomaei Ap., ex ossibus).
The presentation is of high quality, featuring a gilt paper background decorated with oak leaves, a handwritten calligraphic label, and a gilt brass frame under glass.
The family commissioned this unusual wooden lace frame, reflecting the importance they attached to the relic.
The rectangular relic, composed of wood and paper, is secured by four crossed copper braces. The whole is sealed with a red wax seal bearing the arms of a bishopric (with ten tassels).
A fine and authentic 19th-century relic.
Good condition overall, with no notable defects. The wooden lace frame shows only a few minor losses consistent with age and use.
