Rare Collector's Pipe, Early 19th Century, Meerschaum, Silver, Albatross Bone, In Case.
Case dimensions: 21 × 5.5 × 4 cm.
A fine long and lightweight pipe preserved in its original black leather case, lined with violet silk.
This is an elegant and uncommon model, now approximately two centuries old. The ovoid bowl is made of meerschaum and displays a pleasing smoked patina. The silver mount of the stem is attached to the bowl by a cut, riveted and flower-engraved silver fitting. The two sections appear to be detachable (not tested) and are connected by a small chain.
The central stem is made from albatross bone, a naturally hollow material, which has developed an attractive period patina.
A long pierced and engraved silver ferrule connects it to the bone mouthpiece.
The pipe remains in good overall condition, showing only minor scratches consistent with age and use.
