A Comfortable, Molded And Carved Wingback Chair, Reupholstered In Gray And Gold, From The Directoire-consulat Period

A beautiful and comfortable wingback chair with molded and carved details, reupholstered in gray and gold, dating from the Directoire-Consulat period. The rectangular, slightly sloped backrest features ringed baluster armrests. The seat rests on turned baluster front legs topped with olive-shaped finials and saber-shaped rear legs.
The carved decoration, accented with gold, arranged in the traditional manner, consists of the classic palmette or shell motif at the junction of the armrest and the backrest, a foliage-adorned volute at the end of the armrest, and a rosette at the connecting block between the front legs and the armrest support.
The seat is upholstered in yellow velvet with traditional horsehair padding.
Good overall condition. Standard restorations. A few chips in the lacquer. Traces of wood-boring insects, but the chair has been treated. Fabric on the armrests is worn; otherwise, it is in acceptable condition.
Late 18th or very early 19th century.
Height: 96 cm; seat height: 46 cm; width: 63 cm; depth: 62.5 cm.
This bergère is of the same model as the previous pair of armchairs (see last image).
