Louis XV-style Chest Of Drawers, Mid-18th Century, Circa 1745–1750, Adorned With Gilded Bronze Finial
Stunning Louis XV-era chest of drawers – 18th century, circa 1745–1750
Elegant Louis XV-era chest of drawers with a curved front, featuring three rows of drawers and remarkable marquetry of violetwood and rosewood, with rich geometric scrollwork and contrasting grain patterns.
It stands out for the quality and abundance of its finely chased gilded bronze fittings, featuring a rocaille decoration of foliage and volutes, adorning the handles, lock plates, side panels, feet, and lower crossbar.
Of particular note: the handles bear the crowned “C” hallmark, used between 1745 and 1749 under Louis XV, a valuable historical indicator that allows for the precise dating of these bronze pieces.
The piece is topped by an elegant red marble top veined with white, molded to follow the curves of the cabinet.
The cabinetwork is of very high quality, with harmonious proportions and refined ornamentation.
The chest of drawers has undergone restoration or consolidation (marble) at various points in its history.
