Mid-19th Century Sculpture Of A Bathing Venus
Refined sculpture in exquisite white Carrara statuary
marble, finely carved. The piece depicts a bathing Venus, inspired by the work
of Falconet, a well-known French sculptor of the Neoclassical period, as also evidenced
by the signature on the base. The goddess Venus is shown seated on a rock, with
a peplos covering the lower part of her body, leaving her breasts exposed. With
one hand, she tends to washing her left foot, which is elegantly raised and
crossed. This sculpture displays an exceptional level of realism and impeccable
technical detail, embodying a refined taste and a sense of class capable of
enriching any setting. Italian craftsmanship, mid-19th century.
