Early 19th Century Marble Bust Of A Young Woman
Refined bust of statuary marble, finely carved and set
upon a round Bardiglio marble base. The sculpture depicts a young woman with
her hair gathered in a headband; her face is shown in semi-profile, defined by
delicate, harmonious features. The richness of detail and the meticulous
execution make this bust a work of significant artistic merit. The back of the
sculpture bears the signature "Houdon," attributing the work to the
renowned French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741–1828), who was active during
the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is a piece of great taste and
sophistication, capable of lending elegance and a touch of classical style to
any setting. French manufacture, early 19th century.
