Cat Playing The Accordion By A Streetlight - Viennese Bronze, Bergmann, Late 19th Century
A charming polychrome Viennese bronze depicting a cat playing the accordion, sitting on a bench at the base of a streetlamp.
The composition is particularly whimsical: while the cat plays its instrument, a little mouse perches atop the streetlamp, adding an extra touch of humor to the scene.
The large streetlamp frames the composition and lends a strong presence to this small scene, typical of Viennese anthropomorphic animal bronzes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The piece bears the “B” mark inside an amphora from the Franz Xaver Bergmann workshop.
Another mark is present on the stool.
