Late 19th century.
A small rarity... A folk art object, made in Batz-sur-Mer from the early 19th century onward, depicting salt workers in ceremonial attire. It appears that the craft of seashell art, which began in Batz-sur-Mer in the late 17th century, with the production of decorative bouquets for church altars, took a new direction around 1820 with the creation of shell figurines depicting salt workers, thereby spreading their images and folk traditions beyond their region... A moving testament to times past, imbued with great delicacy.
