Table Bell By André Galland—henriot Manufactory—brittany
Henriot Manufactory.
André Galland (1886 –1965):
the son of a sheet manufacturer, was a French designer and illustrator. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1933, in recognition of a body of work that influenced his era. An eclectic artist, he also created earthenware, posters, and lithographs that are now sought-after by collectors.
After studying at the Collège Rollin, the École des Arts Décoratifs, and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he abandoned his preparations for the Prix de Rome to enter the workforce. He turned to journalism and began his career as a sketch artist under Paul Renouard. A few years later, he became Renouard’s student at the École des Arts Décoratifs. He mastered an original drawing technique known as “bone points,” which produced true “pencil reporters”—artists skilled at capturing a lively scene in the blink of an eye. Galland described himself as a “sketch reporter.” This perfectly captures the spirit of his work at the Henriot Manufacture.
