Dresden Porcelain Vase By Carl Thieme Potschappel, Featuring Ram Heads – Circa 1900
A very beautiful Dresden porcelain vase, made by the Carl Thieme factory in Potschappel, dating from the early 20th century.
Baluster-shaped, it features a rich polychrome decoration of floral garlands, bouquets, and baskets of flowers suspended from ribbons, embellished with foliage and delicate gold highlights.
The vase is adorned on both sides with two remarkable ram’s heads in relief, featuring curled horns that are finely modeled and highlighted with gilding.
The flared neck is framed by two volute handles, while the body rests on a circular foot with floral decoration, which in turn sits on a square base adorned with gilt bands and motifs.
A fine example of the Dresden manufactory’s work, combining the delicacy of the floral decoration, the quality of the modeling, and the elegance of the forms.
Markings on the underside of the base: blue SP Dresden monogram, inscription “Déc. 850 – Déposé,” and production numbers.
