Oil on canvas (re-stretched)
Portrait of Mr. André Le Breton in Armor by Alexis Simon Belle (1674–1734) & his studio.
André Le Breton was the son of André François Le Breton, a French publisher who was behind Diderot and d’Alembert’s *Encyclopédie* and *Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers*.
On March 2, 1698, André Le Breton married Elisabeth d’Houry, daughter of Laurent d’Houry—a bookseller and Parisian bourgeois—and his wife, Elisabeth Dubois.
Laurent d’Houry, for his part, was the founder of the almanac.
It would therefore be the son of André Le Breton and Elisabeth d’Houry who would go on to publish the almanac.
