The choice of woods, the balance of the silhouette, and the attention to detail all contribute to the charm of this instrument.

The violin bears its original label, signed and dated 1945, with the number 504, details that are invaluable for its identification and historical significance.

Gustave Villaume, violin maker in Nancy

Born in Mirecourt in 1899, Gustave Villaume came from a family of violin makers and was part of the great artisanal tradition of this city in Lorraine, the historic cradle of French violin making. He trained notably under Léon Mougenot and Jacquet Gand before working in renowned workshops, including that of Caressa and Français in Paris, and later at Jacquot in Nancy.

In 1924, he established his own business in Nancy, on Place du Marché, where he set up his own workshop. His work is distinguished in particular by instruments inspired by the great Italian models, especially those of Guarneri, as well as by the quality of his oil varnishes, with shades ranging from golden yellow to reddish brown. He continued his work for several decades, contributing to the renown of Lorraine violin making in the 20th century.
