– Aunis region, Louis XVI/Directoire Transition period, early 19th century. This rare and elegant writing desk/bookcase, crafted from solid walnut, is characteristic of the Aunis region and dates from the Louis XVI/Directoire Transition period, at the very beginning of the 19th century. The upper section features two doors opening to reveal storage compartments, highlighted by fluting and finely molded uprights. The straight, understated, and balanced cornice hints at the neoclassical aesthetic. The central section has a cylindrical writing surface, while the lower section offers three drawers mounted on traditional runners. The piece rests on tapered legs, lending elegance and lightness to its silhouette. The bronze mounts and keyhole escutcheons, in keeping with the style of the period, discreetly accentuate the lines of the piece and harmonize beautifully with the warm hue of the walnut, carefully selected for the quality of its grain. Fully restored in our workshops, this piece has undergone meticulous work, respecting its original character both structurally and aesthetically. The furniture is now in excellent condition, ready to take its place in a classic or contemporary interior. A piece of character, both decorative and functional, it perfectly illustrates the refinement and craftsmanship of regional French furniture at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
