"Louis XVI Secretary In Amaranth And Lemonwood "
A superb and rare port secretary desk in amaranth and lemonwood with shagreen inlay. It rests on four tapered legs with bronze sabots. The uprights are fluted, and the front opens with two doors in the lower section, concealing a shelf and two drawers. Above this is a drop-front containing a compartment with six small drawers and a niche with a secret compartment. In the upper section, there is a large drawer, and the whole is topped with a molded Portoro marble slab. The entire frame of the desk is made of amaranth, and the panels are lemonwood, a characteristic feature of port furniture. The drop-front is decorated in its center with a geometric shagreen H motif. The locks are clover-shaped, and the escutcheons are bronze. This is a high-quality piece in perfect condition; a rare find due to the wood used.
