This sublime Louis XVI style speckled mahogany cylinder desk rests on tapered, fluted legs inlaid with gilt brass, terminating in gilt bronze sabots. The desk opens with three drawers in the upper section, a cylinder, and four drawers in the lower section. The cylinder reveals compartments, three small drawers, and a beautiful retractable writing surface covered in red velvet. The double drawer on the right in the lower section contains a chest and compartments. The desk top is crowned with Aleppo marble, encircled by an openwork gilt brass gallery. Beautiful and rich ornamentation in bronze and gilt brass, including keyhole escutcheons, drawer pulls, fluting, gallery, rings, sabots, moldings, and drawer and panel frames.
