Louis-philippe-era Sewing Table Made Of Cuban Mahogany France, Circa 1840

Louis-Philippe-era sewing table in Cuban mahogany

France, circa 1840

A charming Louis-Philippe-era sewing table, crafted from Cuban mahogany and featuring a design that is as refined as it is ingenious, reflecting the craftsmanship of the finest cabinetmakers of the mid-19th century.

Resting on an elegant central base with four richly carved legs joined by a turned crossbar, this table captivates with the harmony of its lines and the quality of its craftsmanship.

The tabletop opens via two folding side panels, revealing a spacious compartment entirely lined with its original white marble panels, designed to protect the interior and keep sewing supplies in optimal condition. The main lid is fitted with its original beveled mirror, preserved in perfect condition, adding both elegance and functionality to this piece.

It also contains a secret drawer, discreetly integrated into the side panel, as well as a retractable spool holder located under the top, designed to hold spools of thread or skeins of wool. These ingenious features illustrate the sophistication of women’s furniture during the July Monarchy.

This table is entirely period, with no alterations, and has undergone a meticulous restoration in our workshops, respecting its patina and original materials. It is now in a remarkable state of preservation.

Elegant, practical, and full of charm, this sewing table will naturally find its place in a classic or contemporary interior, where it can be used as a side table, a sewing table, or a small parlor pedestal table.

An authentic and refined piece, emblematic of 19th-century French art de vivre, combining elegance, ingenuity, and high-quality cabinetmaking.
