Modernist Sideboard By Arp – Minvielle Editions – 1960s
Artist: Minvielle
Modernist ARP Sideboard – Minvielle Editions – 1960s.
This elegant modernist sideboard from the 1960s, attributed to the ARP (Atelier de Recherche Plastique) movement and produced by Minvielle, retains its original label inside. The piece consists of a low cabinet with storage and drawers, topped by a glazed upper section with sliding doors, ideal for displaying books, objects, or ceramics. The entire piece rests on a light metal base, characteristic of French modernist furniture of the 1960s. The sliding panels have been repainted in our workshops, creating a graphic composition of vibrant colors – red, blue, green, and yellow – that highlights the architectural and dynamic aesthetic of the piece. The ARP (Atelier de Recherche Plastique) movement was founded in the early 1950s by the architects and designers Pierre Guariche, Michel Mortier, and Joseph-André Motte. Their goal was to revitalize post-war French furniture by creating a functional, accessible, and modern design, favoring clean lines, efficient production, and lightweight structures suited to industrial manufacturing. The creations stemming from this movement now embody one of the major moments in French design during the Trente Glorieuses (Thirty Glorious Years). This sideboard perfectly reflects this spirit: simple lines, balanced proportions, and a colorful composition give it a strong decorative presence while remaining highly functional. Period: 1960s Manufacturer: Minvielle (label present) Movement: ARP – French modernist design Structure: wood and metal base Condition: very good condition, panels repainted in our workshops; slight scratches on the left side. An iconic piece of 1960s French design, as decorative as it is practical.
