Round Glazed Stoneware Dish With Enamel Work By Belgian Ceramic Artist Jules Guérin, 20th Century
Artist: Jules Guérin
Large circular plate made of glazed stoneware, created by the Belgian ceramic artist Jules Guérin (1919–1999), who worked in the workshops of the famous Bouffioulx pottery in Belgium. He was the son of the great master ceramist Roger Guérin. This piece displays a neo-medieval and archaic style typical of the Guérin family’s work. It is adorned with concentric circles, complex geometric patterns, and relief decorations embellished with glass cabochons and brilliant polychrome glazes imitating Merovingian or Byzantine goldsmithing, salt-glazed and enameled stoneware, typical of the Bouffioulx region.
