Small Oriental-style Trays In Polychrome Bronze, Carpet Merchant

Small decorative trinket dish or ashtray in an Orientalist style, made of polychrome bronze or a cold-painted bronze alloy, depicting a carpet merchant or artisan working next to a hanging carpet.

The scene rests on a rectangular base decorated in the style of an Oriental rug, featuring geometric patterns, friezes, and engraved floral motifs. The figure, wearing a red cap, is depicted in front of a hanging carpet in shades of blue and gold. The piece exhibits beautiful antique polychromy, with a patina and natural wear consistent with its age.

This piece reflects the style of Viennese bronzes, which were highly prized in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for their small Orientalist subjects—merchants, artisans, and scenes of daily life. As there is no visible signature in the photos, we cautiously identify it as a piece in the Viennese Bronze style, likely from the 20th century.

A charming display piece, ideal for a collection of small bronzes, a cabinet of curiosities, or a decor theme centered on the world of rugs.
