Several inscriptions are visible: the mark of Franz Xavier Bergmann (the initial B inset in an urn), “GESCHUTZT” (“protected” in German), a serial number, and the number 2 repeated several times on the reverse.
Franz Xavier Bergmann (1861–1936) was a renowned Austrian bronze caster, primarily known for his animal and Orientalist subjects. Born in Vienna, he inherited the small bronze workshop his father had founded in the Austrian capital in 1860 and expanded it by establishing a new foundry in 1900. Initially inspired by his father's designs, he later created his own pieces, reflecting the artistic trends of the time. He also developed the technique of cold painting. Closed in 1930 following the Great Depression, the factory was reopened some time later by Franz's son, Robert, and remained in operation until 1954.
Paint slightly faded in places.
