Franco-Ukrainian painter, draftsman, and photographer.
Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg from 1914, he fled Tsarist Russia in 1920.
A long journey through Central Asia enriched his vision and refined his drawing and photography skills.
After living in Zagreb, Constantinople, Vienna, and Berlin, he settled in Paris in 1923.
Despite a difficult start, he participated in group exhibitions from 1929 onward and exhibited regularly at the Salon d'Automne. In 1938, he met Pierre Bonnard, whose influence profoundly marked his artistic development.
His friendship with Pablo Picasso also played a decisive role in his career.
