Painting depicting an elegantly dressed woman, parasol in hand, strolling with a little girl through a wooded landscape crossed by a stream spanned by a bridge in the distance. A shepherd with his flock of sheep rests by the water's edge. Signed “H. Margottet” in the lower left corner.
Edouard Hippolyte Margottet (1848-1887) was a French painter who specialized in landscapes and portraits. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the tutelage of Isidore Pils, he exhibited at the Salon from 1869 until his untimely death in 1887.
Two restorations on the back of the canvas.
