"Repentant Magdalene, Oil On Copper, 17th Century"
Oil painting on an oval copper plate, in a gilded wooden frame, depicting a repentant Mary Magdalene. We find the characteristic elements of this iconography: Mary Magdalene, her head surrounded by a halo, is represented half-dressed, her long hair falling down her back and onto her chest, the lower part of her body encircled by a drapery in purple tones. She is in a prayer posture, in what appears to be a cave, similar to the Sainte-Baume cave in which the saint is said to have withdrawn according to the Golden Legend by Jacques de Voragine.
Some chips in the painting.
A crack to note on the back of the wooden panel.
Good condition.
17th century
