A Georgian-era Naval Officer's Dagger With Gilded Mountings And A Leather Sheath
A dagger from the early 19th century, attributed to a British Royal Navy officer from the Napoleonic Wars period. The curved blade features etched decoration on both sides.
The finely crafted hilt, with a checkered pattern, is adorned with a gilded pommel in the shape of a lion’s head and a guard chain. The guard features lion heads at the ends and a central medallion depicting a lion’s mask. The set comes with its leather scabbard, presumed to be original, with gilded fittings and two suspension rings.
Visible signs of age and use: wear on the gilding, stains on the blade, crazing, and localized surface loss on the leather of the scabbard.
