Peking Glass Tobacco Bottle – Fish And Lotus – Circa 1890–1920
A fine Chinese Peking glass tobacco flask, mouth-blown and intricately carved in relief in a layer of red amber on a clear ground. Each side is decorated with a carp swimming beneath a lotus flower, surrounded by engraved waves – traditional symbols of prosperity, perseverance and purity (lián yú yǒu yú 连年有余, “continuous abundance”).
Flattened oval in shape with cut sides, it retains its original matching stopper, with cork and internal spoon.
