Light Cavalry Saber, Model An XI – Confederation Of The Rhine – First Empire

Beautiful light cavalry saber, Model An XI, dating from the First Empire, with a blade from Solingen.

The brass hilt is the standard three-pronged model, with a long-tailed cap. The grip is covered in sheepskin, retaining a beautiful antique patina. The various components of the mount show uniform wear consistent with the weapon’s age.

The curved, hollow-edged blade measures 87.5 cm. It bears the following cursive inscription on the back:

“Manufacture de Solingen K.S. & C.”

This mark is attributed to the Solingen firm Kirschbaum, Schnitzler & Compagnie, which was active in the manufacture and trade of bladed weapons in the early 19th century.

This type of Solingen-bladed saber is notably associated with supplies intended for the Napoleonic armies and the German contingents allied with France. The various markings and hallmarks present on this specimen are attributed to the troops of the Confederation of the Rhine.

Notably, there are several hallmarks on the hilt and blade, as well as the letters “C” and “P” stamped on the tip of the scabbard.

Regulation steel sheet scabbard, featuring two loop straps and suspension rings, terminating in a tip. It exhibits a patina and signs of age consistent with a weapon that has seen service.

The set is cohesive and particularly interesting due to the combination of the French An XI model and a blade manufactured in Solingen, characteristic of military supplies used during the Napoleonic Wars.
