Portrait Of A Young Man By Pierre-edouard Dagoty, 1832

Portrait of a Young Man by Pierre-Edouard Dagoty, 1832.
The subject is wearing the typical attire of the era: a black frock coat, a straight-collared waistcoat, and a cravat wrapped around his neck, with the tips of his shirt collar peeking out.

Pierre-Edouard Dagoty (1775–1872) was a renowned miniature painter.
The Academy of Fine Arts in Florence awarded him Second Prize for his nude study on March 7, 1797. That same year, he was awarded First Prize in painting in the Second Class competition.
His contemporaries nicknamed him the “Isabey of Bordeaux.” In the world of miniaturists, he held a position comparable to that of Daffinger in Vienna (Austria) or Chabanne in Lyon.
