The subject of this watercolor is charming. A hunter rests at the edge of the woods while his hunting dog, a Brittany spaniel, leads guard over the game! This work was exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1839 by the artist under the title “Landscape and Still Life”. It is signed “A. Guill. » which is certainly an abbreviation for A. Guillaume. In fact, in the General Dictionary of Artists of the French School by Emile Bellier de La Chavignerie there is an “A. Guillaume” who lives at the same address as the painter “A. Guill. » who exhibited in 1839, at 358 rue Saint-Honoré in Paris. He also produced and exhibited drawing portraits at the Paris Salon in 1835 and 1837.
