Limestone Ridge Caps
A limestone ridge finial carved in the round, dating from the 18th century.
This architectural element consists of a fleur-de-lis surrounded by stylized acanthus leaves, two major components of the Neoclassical ornamental vocabulary under the Ancien Régime.
It rests on a molded wooden base painted to imitate later-period Rouge de Rance marble.
Some chipping is noticeable on certain edges, as seen in the photos.
