"cupid Facing Armatus" Trompe-l'œil Door Decal
A trompe-l'oeil overdoor depicting Cupid atop an eagle, surrounded by dynamic acanthus leaf scrollwork. The main subject is derived from "Cupid face Armatus," based on a drawing by Giulio Romano (1492 or 1499–1546), later adapted by Carlo Cigani (1628–1719) and engraved by Jean-Michel Liotard (1702–1796).
This grisaille frieze creates an illusion of depth, giving the impression of viewing a bas-relief.
This oil on paper, later mounted on panel, is presented in a wooden frame.
